Rivet selection

At Rocfast, we have much to offer the purchaser of blind rivets and we would like the opportunity to be of service to you.

Correct rivet selection is vital in order to ensure that the rivet is property secured… not too early… not too late.

Although everything is done to make sure that the rivet you purchase is technically sound, if you do not select a rivet with the correct body length or drill the correct hole size, you will not achieve the result you want.

For example, if the rivet is too long, then you may be left with a piece of the mandrel metal sticking out from the hole in the dome (you might also find the mandrel breaking too soon). Working too short (i.e. the rivet body is too long) can cause the mandrel to break in the jaws of the riveting tool. The rivet body will also bend as the mandrel is pulled through. It is possible that the notch on the mandrel, which forms the break point, will be supported by the body itself and will fail to break.

If the rivet is too short it cannot function properly because the expansion of the rivet body will be taking place inside the hole that has been drilled through the materials being joined, rather than on the opposite side of the hole to the flange - it is also likely that the rivet will pull out.

Make sure you use the recommended drill to produce the correct hold size. Should you require any assistance with either rivet selection or conversion from another manufacturer's product code, one of our sales staff will be happy to help you.
